Not a medical device
Plateknow is not a medical device. It does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease or medical condition. It does not detect or name any condition, and it never tells you what to eat.
Talk to a doctor or a registered dietitian before you act on any figure in the app, and before changing what you eat, a medication or your exercise because of it.
Estimates are estimates
Calories and nutrients in Plateknow are estimated by AI from a single photo. A photo cannot show everything: oil, butter and sauces are hard to see, portion depth is hard to judge, and mixed dishes have no visible boundaries. Estimates can be wrong, sometimes by a lot.
- Every AI estimate is labelled “Estimated by AI” and shown with a range rather than as a single exact number.
- You can correct it in one tap: rename the dish, set the portion from 0.25× to 6×, or pick an alternative.
- Where an accurate number matters — for example a diet prescribed by a professional — weigh the food or use the nutrition label.
More about how estimates are made: how the AI estimate works.
The daily reference figure
If you fill in the optional body profile, Plateknow shows a daily reference figure computed with a published equation (Mifflin-St Jeor). It is an estimate for a healthy adult population. Your own needs can differ, and the figure is a point of reference, not a target or a prescription.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a medical condition, or take medication that affects appetite or weight, equations like this may not apply to you. Ask a professional.
Check-ins and recaps
Check-ins record how you said a meal sat. Recaps show only what appeared together in your own records — not a cause. They do not label foods as good or bad, and they do not draw conclusions about your body. Plateknow has no streaks, scores or grades.
If tracking food causes you distress
Counting food and watching numbers is not right for everyone. Plateknow is not designed as a tool for people who have, or are recovering from, an eating disorder, and it is not a substitute for care.
If food, weight or tracking is causing you distress, please stop using the app and reach out to a local health professional or an eating disorder helpline where you live. If you are in immediate danger, call your local emergency number.
Adults only
Plateknow is not intended for children under 13. If you are under 18, talk with a parent or guardian, and with a doctor, before changing how you eat.
