The data, at a glance
| Data type | Access | Feature it powers | Where you see it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nutrition | Write | After you save a meal, its estimated energy, carbohydrate, protein and fat — and fibre, sugar and sodium when estimated — are written to Health Connect. Correcting the meal updates the record; deleting the meal removes it. | In Health Connect, and in other apps you have allowed to read nutrition |
| Steps | Read | Today’s step total. | The Today screen |
| Weight | Read | Your most recent weight from the last 30 days, read when you ask, to fill in the body profile that computes your daily reference figure. | Me → Your body |
That is the complete list. Plateknow requests no other Health Connect data types.
Why each permission is needed
Write nutrition
So the meals you log in Plateknow can count in the other health and fitness apps you use, without typing them twice. Plateknow writes only meals you have saved, with the figures shown for that meal — the estimated energy, carbohydrate, protein and fat, plus fibre, sugar and sodium when the estimate has them. If you correct the meal, the same record is updated; if you delete it, the record is removed. It does not write anything it infers about you.
Read steps
So the Today screen can show today’s step total next to what you ate. Plateknow reads today’s total only, and shows it as a plain number: no goals, no streaks and no scores.
Read weight
So you do not have to type your weight into the body profile. In Me → Your body, tap Use the latest weight from Health Connect and Plateknow reads your most recent weight from the last 30 days into the profile; you can change it there. Nothing is read until you tap. The profile computes a daily reference figure from a published equation (Mifflin-St Jeor) — an estimate for a healthy adult population, not a target. Weight read from Health Connect is not charted and not used for anything else.
No history, no background reads
Plateknow does not request the permission to read past Health Connect data (history), and does not request the permission to read Health Connect data in the background. It reads only while you are using the app: today’s step total when the Today screen is open, and your latest weight when you tap to use it.
What never happens to Health Connect data
- It is never sent to our servers or to our AI gateway, and never included in an estimate request.
- It is never shared with third parties, including our processors.
- It is never sold.
- It is never used for advertising or marketing.
- It is never used for credit, lending or insurance decisions.
- It is never used to train AI models.
Health Connect data stays in Health Connect on your phone. The only copy Plateknow keeps is the weight value it fills into your body profile when you ask, which is stored in the app’s private storage with your other settings and, like them, may be included in your own Android backup to your Google account.
Connect, turn off and revoke
Connect
- In Plateknow, open Me → Health Connect and tap Connect Health Connect.
- Android shows the Health Connect permission screen. Allow the permissions you want; you can allow some and not others.
- Every other feature of Plateknow works without Health Connect.
Turn it off in the app
In the same place, turn off Connected. Plateknow stops reading and writing Health Connect data. Manage permissions opens the Health Connect permission screen again.
Revoke in Health Connect
Open Health Connect — on Android 14 and later it is in Settings, usually under Security & privacy; on earlier versions it is the Health Connect app — then App permissions → Plateknow, and turn permissions off or remove access. The exact path varies by phone.
Delete data Plateknow wrote
Revoking access does not delete records already written. To remove them, open Health Connect, go to your data, choose Nutrition and delete the entries you want to remove.
Limited Use
Plateknow’s use of information received from Health Connect adheres to the Health Connect Permissions policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
For everything else the app does with data, see the privacy policy. Questions: hello@plateknow.com.
