How the app that takes a picture of food tells you calories -
A food and mood diary that asks for you
A few hours later, one question about how lunch left you. The answer stays with the meal.
Keeping a food and mood journal -
A food diary made of photos
Every meal comes back as a picture, so last Tuesday scrolls like an album. Over weeks it shows what showed up alongside what — and never claims to know why.
Best photo calorie apps, compared
The record
Three screens, in the order you meet them.
The meal, and the you that followed.
The timeline keeps the two together — the plate at the top, every reading that came after it underneath, on one thread.
One question, a few seconds.
Off, fine, good — and how full you are now. Say more only if you feel like it, and “not now” is always a button.
Patterns surface on their own.
Digestion, mood, focus — what you recorded together, counted, against your own average. The screen prints the boundary itself: that is what you logged alongside each other, not a cause.

FAQ
Does it work on iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo?
Yes. Plateknow runs on any iPhone with iOS 26 or later, and that includes iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and iPhone Duo.
Are photo calorie apps accurate?
Close enough to be useful, not lab-precise: a photo carries no depth, so portion size is the hard part. Plateknow shows how it read your plate, gives portions in fractions, and a wrong item is one tap to correct.
Is this calorie counter app actually free?
The free version comes with an allowance: ten AI estimates a day, and no account at all — the app does not sign you in to anything. The allowance sits on the estimate, never on the diary: log every meal you eat, type in what it was once the allowance is spent, and the check-ins still come. Paying is for people who run past it — it raises the estimate allowance and opens the longer recaps. There are no ads in the app.
Does it have a barcode scanner?
Yes. Scan a packet’s barcode and its nutrition label once, and Plateknow recognises that packet the next time you scan it.
Is it available in the UK and Australia?
Yes. Plateknow is on the App Store now in the United States, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea and Japan, free to download.
Is there an Android version?
Yes. Plateknow for Android is on Google Play in every country, free to download.
Can I use it as a food and mood diary?
Yes. A few hours after a meal, Plateknow asks how it sat — energy, focus, mood, digestion, fullness — and keeps the answer with the meal. It shows what you recorded together, never a cause, and it does not diagnose.
Can I track food without counting calories?
Yes. Plateknow works with no goal set, and the numbers can be switched off, so the photo diary and the check-ins carry on without a calorie count on screen.
